After serving as the City Clerk for 4 1/2 years, I have developed a deep understanding of the critical role that the city clerk plays in municipal governance. This experience has allowed me to cultivate the necessary expertise to navigate the political landscape that frequently arises with newly elected officials. By operating within the defined parameters of my role, I can maintain my focus and avoid the need to constantly figure things out. As a result, I can remain steadfastly dedicated to achieving my purpose.

My Agenda

Staff

Staff development is crucial to the role of City Clerk. The city of South Bend has seen increased growth in the council’s role and it is imperative that our office matches that new demand. I will be requesting a budget to include two new staff members to add to my office.

Inclusivity

My main job is to communicate the legislative activities of the council and the mayor to our community as our city continues to develop and grow. Chapter 2 of the Indiana Code provides the instruction and jurisdiction to achieve transparency. I have made it my mission to insure that we are communicating with all city residents and constituents in an inclusive and accessible way.

Tech

In order to properly execute as Clerk, we need to continue investing in technology. From logistics, to execution to communication, technology plays a role in everything we do. My goal is to become a digital leader when engaging the public and maintaining records.
